Have 18 month old Samsung 2.5 gb.harddrive. It is developing bad sectors. I am thinking of replacing it with a SCSI harddrive(s). I have the following drives and SCSI adaptor card. -Seagate model # ST32151N -Fujitsu model # M2952SYU -Adaptec Model # AHA 2940 S6(PCI) My motherboard is a Houston M571(A.K.A. PC-Wave). Will this board support these drives? I would also like to keep my ATAPI CD-ROM in the system. Any problems with this. Any help would be appreciated. |

That Smasung is probably still under warranty; check http://www.samsung.com/ for RMA procedures, troubleshooting and warranty information. Their site is a bit of a bird's nest. Any motherboard with PCI slots will run your SCSI adapter as well as the HDDs. I'm pretty sure the 2940 will handle either drive no problem (Adaptec lists no S6 model), but the Seagate has a 50 pin connector (SCSI2), while your Fujitsu may or may not have a SCSI3 connector. Running the cabling for both drives may get tricky. You can get a SCSI card from Adaptec that has both connectors. The cd-rom will probably work best if you make it master on the secondary controller. Disable the primary controller from bios setup ("none" for both master and slave). Slave may work if master doesn't. Make sure to jumper the cd-rom drive correctly. For a more complete discussion of SCSI cabling, see: http://www.pcguide.com/index.htm Do a search for "SCSI and cable" For more info on your HDDs, see: http://www.pc-disk.de/pcdisk.htm and finally, see: http://www.adaptec.com/ for a wealth of info on all things SCSI. |
