I am trying to put together a system for someone who blew his other 486 DX2-50 system and was given a 486DX-33 motherboard & chip. Everything reads fine, memory, power, etc., working fine. But I keep getting a HDD controller error when I turn the system on, go to setup message. I can't seem to get around it. I tried booting from a floppy, but it will not see the C:\ drive. The IDE controller is on the motherboard. What can I try at this point. I desperately need help as I need to get this customer a computer working. Thank you very much in advance.

Have you tried an add-on controller card. There may be a jumper to change to override. With a small stroke of luck, it may say something like I/O or SIO.

check the cable and the pins and also make sure that the jumpers on the hard drive is set to master and make sure the red line or maybe a dotted line on the cable is closest to the power cable on the harddrive also the pin #1 on the main board where you put the cable should be the red side ummmm thats all I can think of besides what she said
