My computer has decided to start rebooting instead of shutting down. Apparently it is a known problem with SE but I downloaded the patch that Microsoft have and it doesn't appear to have solved the problem. Checked the power management feature and the power management in the BIOS all to no avail. My Power Supply has been making a loud humming noise on boot up for a minute or two for the last couple of weeks.....could this be at fault? I'm frustrated. The computer spends a long time at the waiting to Shut Down screen before eventually rebooting. I'm using a P2400 on an SE440BX m/b, 128mb PC100 Ram, 16mb Asus Banshee, Viewsonic E771, 8.4GB drive and running 98SE. I have installed nothing nor added any componetry in the last few days that may have contributed to this. I'm reposting this as I posted it last night but it appears to have disappeared. Thanks.

Sounds like #1 your fan needed cleaning *DON'T OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY BOYS AND GIRLS" Capacitors hurt and kill, just get some canned air. Or it's just getting old and needs to warm up.
#2 sounds like some of your files had possibly curropted(Sorry for poor spelling) or too many old drivers that did not uninstall etc.. things of that nature. A re-install would have probably done then job.

OK......don't know what was stuffing things up but I did the FDisk, Format and Re-install and things are back to normal.......wish I knew what had caused it in the first place though
