Is there anywhere a person can look to find out
what the BIOS settings should be.
I just purchased an old Compaq 5380, but have absolutely no literature or manuals to help me
run it.
I am interested in what the BIOS settings should be, and what each settings function does.
Anyone here own one of these?

Start with Radio Shack at http://www.radioshack.com/ProdSupport/ProductSupportDrillDown.asp?OID=RSSupport-Computers# as they have much easier to find info than Compaq. However, you probably won't find much info about BIOS settings. (Their pretty tight about that.)

Then try http://www.hardwarehell.com/biosarch.htm for quite a few settings.

To access the BIOS settings try these:

Press F10 when square in top RH corner of screen

Press F1 or F10 during the Compaq boot-up screen.

That should be a start anyway...

If you can access the bios try selecting standard or default settings for bios and cmos. This usually works for me on 486 and later units. From there you can tweak to get better performance.
