Hi! My name is Ashley I have a HUGE problem! A little while ago our computer totally crashed. We just now got everything back together and everything working again, except our colors. Where you go into display and change the color settings (16 colors, 256 colors, etc.) the 16 colors choice is the only one there! I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the other ones back? Thanks so much for your time! Also if it isn't too much trouble to just e-mail me the aswer because I dunno if I can find this page again! Crazy4CK28@AOL.com Thanks so much Bye! :) *Ashley* |

Email sent as requested. For those of you that want to know what was sent... This problem usually results from a display driver issue. If you have internet access, find the manufacturer of your video card and download the appropriate driver. If you aren't sure what video driver you have, usually the manufacturer of your PC has the drivers listed for each individual models of computer and most sites are fairly easy to navigate through. If you still have problems, please make a note of the model of your computer, and post it back at the web-site - www.hardwarehell.com. ABE |

I found that frequently internet connection is established by my system after unusually large number of trials. Even when it is established, the connectoid Icon in the system tray does not flash. The Internet opening window which appears reluctantly reads: The page cannot be displayed”.If I still open Outlook express and click Send and Receive the connection window opens but stops at “Finding Host”. I tried reinstalling windows SE with some relief but very often I tried reinstalling windows after formatting Drive C which made normal retrieval of mail possible. Some time back I noticed that after a format and install afresh of Windows 98SE from a CD and immediately checking system files in System File Cheker I am being warned about a changed file ‘setupx.dll”. This happened even when Windows is installed from a different CD ROM. Now the problem has taken a graver turn. When I installed Windows after formatting drive C the System file Checker following system files are changed or corrupted when the is used. 1. Extrac.32exe 2. hh.exe 3. pidgen.dll 4. dindi.dll 5. infrared.dll 6. Issetup.dll 7. mstcp.dll 8. ndswan.dll 9. netapi.dll 10. netdi.dll 11. netos.dll 12. newnds.dll 13. inasetup.dll 14. cfgwis.dll 15. dlcndi.dll 16. dskmainl.dll 17. msprint.dll 18. sysdetmg.dll 19. setupx.dll 20. fzexpand.dll 21. hidci.dllmap32.dll 22. cabview.dll All files are extracted in by sfc but after a few days all or most of these files are reported changed or corrupted by the System File Checker. Qustion. Why does this occur? Is my problem of mail retrieval caused by this ? |

What type of modem are you using? I have seen where data compression being turned on (within the modem properties, and the dial-up properties) have caused the modem to infrequently connect. For example, if you do get connected, the modem icon in the system tray flashes intermittently, but truely never sends nor receives packets. Older Zoom modems were infamous in doing this, and it may not be a result of your software installation. |

I think you got bigger issues than bad modem connection, the file corruption or changes you describe should not occur. I wouldnt be surprised if this causes more than just email problems. If the files are truly corrupt, the ones you posted here, then you are gonna get lots of trouble. Test your hard drive thoroughly, and have your ram checked too. |

i encountered similar problems to ashleys, video on 16 colours no matter what. the system pentium 2 350mhz tyan tsunami mobo with matrox agp 100 produtiva agp card. after much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth i determined the matrox card was incompatible with the mobo, soluton was a different card. the matrox card works fine in another pentium 2 system. the 350 turned out to be a very good buy after all, guess why? |

one thing i can think of, is hardware conflicts. when you load windows without the drivers, it sets the memory address and irq. when you load the matrox drivers, it changes the settings. i had the same thing happen when i tried to put an ati board in an fic 2013. it refused to go further and crashed after loading the drivers. result, it had irq conflicts with the onboard ide controller. took it back and went to a regular tnt. stb is the recommended card with this board. or a generic make. that's all it'll take. those cards are hard to come by these days. found a few on e-bay. for around $16. |
