A computer that has been on for two years suddenly displayed the password page and we just assumed someone had turned the computer off. But we didn't and as far as we know there was no power outage. Anyway no-one knows the password to get back in so some network guy told me to pull the battery for a few hours and that would clear the password. I left the battery out overnight. Now the computer hangs up on the black spec page with copyright info and Dell Dimension XPS T700r, BIOS Version A09, Intel (R) Pentium(R) iii processor 700 MHz, 128 System RAM Passed. The computer will not move beyond this page. If I press del to enter setup. I get "Entering SETUP" at the bottom of the page and still doesn't move off of this page. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not a professional so please use baby talk for me. I won't get insulted.

2 years is a long time (even for a Dell) to be up and running with out a reboot once in a while.
Some component is causing a system hang at the BIOS level. Your best course of action in this case would be to pop the cover off the machine and check your drives by disconnecting from power source first and unplug Data cables and power plugs from them and repowering the system until you can get into CMOS setup. Most of the time a hard drive or cdrom drive is to blame.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS B1000r with BIOS A08. The setup utility that comes with the BIOS is very limited and won't allow me to make user-defined C-H-S settings for the IDE drives. I need to do that for some drive imaging software I use. Apparently all the BIOS allows for is an "auto-detect" setting.

I contact Dell technical support but I don't think the technical support agent knows what I'm asking. He tells me that the BIOS setup uses "default" settings.

Is anyone aware of a BIOS setup utility that will work with this Dell and allow me to modify those drive settings?

I have a Dell Dimension B1000 R desktop, and I can't figure out which key to press to interrupt the boot process and take me to the BIOS setup.

I need to set the boot sequence to boot from CD, but I can't get to the BIOS setup.
