Hi all,

I'm trying to find a replacement CPU fan for my Dell Dimension 4100 and am not having much luck, as this fan seems to be 'built in' to the mounting case. I've found out (a couple years too late) that these models were initially sold with noisy fans, which Dell replaced back then. Any help anyone can give me about where to get a replacement (Dell's website was no help; haven't tried calling them yet--figure it'll be cheaper IF I can get one elsewhere) would be most greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jen

Well, I was able to find the phone number for Dell's spare parts division. Looks like it'll cost about $20 with shipping.

I'm in the same position. Do you happen to have the phone number for the spare parts division, or if you know a URL to order it online? Thanks in advance.

The Dell 4100 uses a standard 92mm fan that can be bought at any computer store. It just pops out of the fan case with a lttle help from a small screwdriver.

if i have 2 IDE hard drives installed on my Dell Dim 4100, do BOTH jumper settings need to be set to Cable Select? Windows 2K sees both hard drives in Device Manager, however I can only access the C: drive (shud there be a D: for my 2nd hard drive, and E: assigned to CD-ROM?)

Sounds like the second drive needs to be partitioned and formatted.

Sound like you shouldn't use cable select at all.
Drive C (first letter is irrelevant) at master.
Second drive at slave if they are on the same cablethat is.
Otherwise make sure it not at the same (master/slave) setting as your CD/DVD. (while you're at it remove cable select from any optical drives as well.

Cable select is an unreliable technique witch lets your cable (not you) deside the order of the harddisks.
It only causes problems.
