My son has recently installed Win 98 on his old PC, to recover after his system restore disk (Win Me) failed to work. He decided to 'clean slate' by reformatting. The modem stopped working and he now has a PC-Bridge error showing in device manager(I think I managed to fix all his other problems!)- what is this ? - what can I do to fix it ?? Thanks Thanks Thanks

I bet that Tiny PC has an Intel 810 chipset, Try downloading and installing the 810 chipset drivers from Intel. The bridge may indicate that Win98 doesn't recognize the way the 810 handles PCI and Memory via it's memory host controller and sub systems where WinMe did.

Thanks for the quick responce. Tried the 'Intel' chipset identifier program (downloaded from this forum) - It runs and says the chipset is not an Intel set ???. I had a look in the 'drivers' folder on the Tiny restore disk - It doesn't give any motherboard details, but refers to intel 850 chipsets ?? Mind you, I've also noted that a lot of the info in other driver folders (graphics / modem etc) don't refer to a system with Win Me - which is what he had - or to actual hardwear originally installed (as far as I can see) So I can't say I'm overly keen to trust any of it. I've tried looking for numbers on the motherboard - and the processor / cooling fans, obscure what I think I should be looking for. Trouble is, the restore disk worked OK several times in its life prior to the eventual time it packed up - so the driver info I guess must be right (or was, prior to the install of Win 98). Therefore, I'm a bit lost as to why the chipset ident utility, insists that its not even an intel chipset of any sort. Is there a generic utility that I can run, that will reveal all ??? Sorry to be such a 'dunce' !

Further update. I ran the ctBios.exe program. These are the findings :-

Computer ID: FC, type; AT
Bios date: 02/08/01
Ami Bios found: Version 01.07, date 15.02.95
OEM ID: 0000
URL: ????
Chipset: Irongate

Guess I start checking drivers for this ? - but why was the original driver disk (info on the 'restore' disk)refering to an Intel 850 chipset in the chipset drivers folder ??? It obviously worked under Win Me.

Ok, so not an Intel but an AMD go to MSI's websight and download drivers for MS-6191 mainboard. It is an Hybrid combo board with both AMD and VIA chipset so you must use the drivers from MSI.

Same situation as with Intel, WinMe supports with native drivers but win98 requires chipset drivers for proper recognition.
