Hello all,

I just upgraded from AMD 2400+ to AMD 3000+. Firstly i was having trouble with the computer rebooting...but i checked bios and the cutoff temp was set to 70degrees celcius. I read in amd reviews that the 3000+ is expected to run at about 75celcius when fully loaded. I just put the cutoff at 80degrees in bios...this seems to have fixed the problem.

My main problem now is that some programs (ie Counterstrike game) is crashing. Does anyone know what else i need to do to adapt my hardware for the upgrade. And also did i do the right thing by increasing cut off temperature??

Thank in advance!

Wow, 70C is really high even for the Barton 3000+, you are probably still looking at a heat related issue while gaming as more heat is probably being dumped into the case from the video card you have installed. Try running with the case side cover off and perhaps a small desk fan blowing directly into it.

The temperature seems quite stable now (at 40C-50C) I have taken it back to the store and they fixed some bios settings. But now it seems as though more and more programs are crashing..ie when i use windows media player to listen to a song..the program freezez and crashes and sometimes even reboots my computer.

Couls this be to do with software..ie the need to reformat and reeinstall all the motherboard drivers and such?? I see on the AMD 3000 box that it was made for win XP...which i have but it may be an older version of XP...i got it when i bought the computer but i didnt get original copy of XP...it was some kind of oem one....could this be the problem??? Should i reformat to let all software adjust to the new cpu??

OEM XP is a full version without the retail packaging and the mostly useless book that accompanies the retail package.
If Windows is corrupted (it happens with XP as well) than a format and reinstall would be in order.
