Does anyone know why the hardware list in my Device manager has dissappeared? It's not the first time it's happened, and not only on this computer, but I need to update my onboard sound drivers and without the list, I can't. The computer is running Windows XP. Thanks. |

Who makes My Favorite PC PII- 400 MHZ? I can't determine what video card it uses, and I can't find the motherboard manual on the web.

Nicksayce, it sounds as if something has disabled some/all services regarding hardware management. I ran into it a while back and never could get the services back up. I ended up formatting and reinstalling XP. |

This question may be too generic to answer but here goes: My IBM T23 portable computer has XP SP1 installed. I purchased a cheap USB Lexmark printer and followed the installation procedure whick was to let the computer detect the printer and install the drivers. Works fine. When I take the computer with me and then return it the computer 'detects' the printer again and when I press cancel it tries to install the printer at least 2 more times. When it finally quits trying to install the printer the existing printer installation may or may not be operable. Someone suggested I uninstall the printer and reinstall it using the installation cd that comes with the printer. I tried this and it seemed to work for a while then one day it wants to re-install the printer every time I plug it in. What am I doing wrong |
