Please help me, i really don't have a clue what to do. I have just updated my BIOS like i have done a hundred times before, and a now have Checksum error - defaults loaded, then i can't use the keyboard to get into bios settings, and then the case and CPU fans start spluttering. Please don't just reply with the same old thing that is on every other forum, like replace your battery and take everything out apart from the graphics card, i have tried all of this!!!

I have:

Abit NF7-S
Athlon XP 2500+

Thankyou

If you have already tried clearing the CMOS after the flash with the same results, You may have a corrupted bios now, which revision board do you have and which bios file did you flash with by the way?

I've got the v2.0 board and i just flashed it with the latest v2.4. I'm getting worried that my CPU/Entire Motherboard is gone, what do you think?

Thanks

The CPU is probably o.k. the mainboard however might be gone or the bios anyway, according to Abit you can get a new bios chip for your board from excaliberpc.com.

Ok, i have got a new BIOS chip flashed with the correct BIOS, i installed it and cleared the CMOS but still have exactly the same problem except the fans dont start spluttering.
So does this mean my CPU or Motherboard is shot?

Thankyou

The fact that it is giving the CMOS checksum error would indicate the board post routine is getting past memory, video, and CPU check so you can pretty much rule them out as being bad.
For the sake of diagnostics have you checked the CMOS battery?

I've the same problem except I'm installing a new mobo. I believer the mobo come with BIO v22 which show on screen. Once I got the checksum error nothing happen. Is there a fix for this or should I return the mobo. Appreciate a quick reply as I only got 5 days left before I can return. TIA.

Out of the box checksum error might indicate a bad cmos battery, which may also indicate some circuitry damage causing the cmos battery to drain. You should probably send it back.
