my comp started messing up a little while ago, then it just stopped booting up right. everything would start but there would be no video or beep code. i switched video card and tried with a new motherboard, but it still has the same result. is my cpu fried or could it be a bad memory stick?? |

Usually memory errors will cause beep codes, the cpu would be suspect. |

yes. It's the CPU. Video causes beeps, memory causes beeps, hell.. a non-beep-maker will actually cause a beep. Try a 'Known-Good' CPU, & try again.... All due regards... Rob |

Stop!! Do not put a "known good cpu" and try again. If a CPU were a light bulb this method is not a bad idea since light bulbs are a dime a dozen. If you don't want to pay for another CPU then this method is the worst in the world to try. I have had many issues lately in which the initial assumption was a hardware issue when later I found the Cmos was corrupted due to some very nasty viruses and spyware prgrms. a reinstall of the Bios could be all that is needed. a local used and new PC shop could probably help you for a lot less than any BEST BUY or main chain PC Department store. $30.00 tops. Also, I see alot of issues with Video cards lately especially Radeon 9200 to 9800 series. This is mainly due to a small chip with a small heat sink (Black metal looks plastic shaped like a tiny square waffle) located too close to the power connection. The connection is very hard to disconnect if you need to access the area in your box and wish to remove it, or for any reason to remove it. What happens is easy to figure out, people are trying to remove the video card, and applying too much force in the process. Your fingers ultimately slip off and impact the delicate heat sink which rips the chip underneath slightly off the video board. You may not see the damage initially but when put the thing together you have intermittent video issues, beeps, no beeps, many beeps, beeps with differing tones all this with video issues. video there, not there, system reboots automatically, seems fine for a while then strange things, video snow, frozen screen. depending on when you purchased the card you should be able to get a replacement based on bad craftsmanship, I did anyway. LOL X-out |
