What operating system is installed? For 98 and 98se, ME and XP, msconfig can be used. Chances are it isn't a program starting the dialer that will be easily found. Have you tried Spybot or Adaware? |

Win 98 Checked with spybot (think problem may have started with download of latest version and update of spybot) is this possible? Virus checker up to date.spybot and virus check show clean system. Thanks for reply |

Your antivirus is???? I know some AV software will automatically access the internet and look for updates at a pre-determined time every day if programmed to do so. |

It's to bad you couldn't have narrowed it down a bit more but glad you got it sorted anyway. |

Have been able to narrow it down. I remember that when cleaning up files I found a program in a temp file on C which I thought perhaps I had downloaded to use at some stage. Because I was "cleaning up" decided to delete it. Have since checked and discovered that the temp file was created on 2 Nov which is when I downloaded spybot etc and when the attempt dial up started. At least the problem is solved. No I cannot remember the name of the exe file I deleted. Thanks again |

later The file creating and being in the temp file on C: is ic.exe which I think may be a virus that my virus protector is not picking up. Happened again tonight and have just cleaned up the mess created. trojan horse dropper.delf.3.L the virus detected tonight. |
