Hi. I have an Acer PIII with Win 98. When I try to shut it down properly, the power supply makes the noise like it's turning off, but it stays at the splash screen saying that it's shutting down and it never shuts down completely. Any idea as to what this might be? |

That could be caused by anything hardware settings or in software. First place to look is in power settings when in windows98. If that is O.K. check for programs that might be running in the background that will not let the PC shutdown properly, use MSCONFIG. The next item to check involves CMOS bios settings under advanced power management. |

I have checked msconfig...I even reinstalled windows. I checked the power settings in windows and bios and everything looks fine. It still makes the noise like it's shutting off, but the windows splash screen stays up. |

Windows 98 had an issue with shutting down that required a Patch with some systems. Do a search on Google for Win98 Shutdown Patch. If you can't find it. Let me know back here and I will see about getting it to you. |

Tried the Windows patch for the shutdown problem...still having the problem. By the way, I put another power supply in the computer and it did the same thing. Thanks, |
