what is meant by a mother board and how essential is it for a computer

In lay terms, the motherboard is perhaps the most essential component of a computer, all the parts of a PC, the memory, the processor, hard drive, floppy drive, cdrom, and peripherals interface with each other because of the circuitry on the motherboard.
