When I plug in my headset and try to record something with the Windows XP voice recorder program, my computer freezes. I was trying earlier (with numerous programs) to try video conferencing with a friend and each time we tried it, my computer froze up. I can listen to music fine and if I'm not recording and I speak into the mic, it comes through the speakers just fine. But once I hit record or try to do any sort of video conferencing the computer freezes up. Even if there is no mic plugged in, if I hit record on the sound recorder in Windows my system freezes up. Can anyone help me out and let me know what if anything can be done? I have a P4 3.2 with one gig of RAM, a decent sound card (not an onboard one) plenty of hard drive space and a decent video card. I'd like to do video conferencing with a friend but we can't because of this audio problem and each time we try to, my system freezes up. I've tried seemingly everything and I can't figure it out. Thanks very much. |

What type of sound card solution do you have and are the drivers setup for full duplex operation? (simultanious record and playback) Does the system lock up at any other time like during text messageing? |

My sound card is a Creative SB Live. As far as I know, all drivers are properly installed. The device manager does not tell me that any are not installed or there are any problems with any. The system is fine otherwise. It never locks up unless I hit record and the Creative SB Live sound card is the one the sound recorder is using. Thank you. |

Are you using XP's native LIVE drivers or Creative's drivers? The Creative drivers incorporate a lot of additional software that is not really needed, this may be causing the lockups.
