Compaq Presario is really killing me!

Hey everybody. I have a 4 year old Compaq Presario, and it can't handle most sotware and games on the market today. So I need a new computer, and i dont want to spend 3000 on a good Alienware or something. My only other option is to buy the parts and build it my self. Now i've made a list of parts, but because this is my first time, i don't know if they will all be compatible. Also, i'm trying to stay under 1200 while still being able to compare it to an Alienware. So please help me out and tell me if the following is compatible and if i can get something better for the same price. Thanks a lot in advance!! Here's the list: Monitor – SHARP LLT15G4H Ivory 15" 25ms LCD Monitor 260 cd/m2 350:1 Built in Speakers 0.297mm Pixel Pitch – Retail ($168.99 on Newegg.com) Case – ASPIRE X-Navigator ATXA9NW-AL/500 Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply – Retail ($93.99 on Newegg.com) Motherboard – (REFURBISHED) ASUS A8V Deluxe Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro ATX AMD Motherboard – OEM ($94.00 on Newegg, com) Processor – AMD Athlon 64 2800+ ClawHammer 800MHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 - Retail ($113.00 on Newegg.com) Memory – Enet - 2G KIT PC2700 ($169.00 on PriceWatch.com) Video Card – XFX PVT40KNDD3 Geforce 6800 128MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card – Retail (179.00 on Newegg.com) Floppy Drives – SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model MPF920 Black - OEM ($10.00 on Newegg.com) Hard Drive – Western Digital Caviar WD800BB 80GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive ($50.50 on Newegg.com) Sound Card – Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24bit 70SB041000000 8 (7.1) Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card – Retail ($35.00 on Newegg.com) DVD Burner – SONY Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner - OEM ($39.00 on Newegg.com) CD-ROM Drive – BenQ Black 16X DVD-ROM 50X CD-ROM E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model 1650V – Retail (21.00 on Newegg.com) Mouse – Sunbeam BlueFlame Ergonomic Illuminated Mouse MS-2021-BK Black 3 Buttons 1x Wheel USB Optical Mouse – Retail (11.99 on Newegg.com) Keyboard – Microsoft N86-00009 Black 102 Normal Keys 17 Function Keys PS/2 Wired Standard Keyboard – OEM (19.99 on Newegg.com) Modem – Best Data 56K Internal PCI Data Fax Modem ($8.99 on TigerDirect.com) TOTAL - $1156.47 MAX +shipping

Beware of Asus Refurb's I've not had very good luck with them. Compare an Audigy to the Creative Live Card you may have issues with the VIA based sckt939 board and the Live! card. All else seems good. |
