hey, im looking to upgrade my computer so i can play some of the new games out now like Oblivion. But im a n00b when it comes to the technical side of things so i need some advice on whether my pc is upgradable to the extent i am after... What i have * Processor: Intel Pentium 4 - 1.7GHz * Motherboard: Chipset-AV40S chipset: VIA VT8753 P4X266 + VT8233 5xPCI, 1xAGP v2.0 (Hopefully this ^ will make sense to someone) * Memory: 512MB DDR SDRAM * Video: ATI RADEON 9200 SE (128MB DDR SDRAM) What i want * Processor: upgrade to at least 3.0GHz * Motherboard: will my current motherboard be able to handle an upgrade this big? * Memory: upgrade to 1024MB * Video: something that will run high end games, i was thinking something from the GeForce 6800 range. now my main question is, will this upgrade work (or is it even possible with my current machine)? and will all these upgrades be compatible with each other? |

Get a new board and cpu at the same time with faster memory DDR400 or DDR2-533, providing you want to go with a P4 again, otherwise for gaming you can get an AMD 64 system for less money and be further ahead spending more for a better video card. |
