MY mate has an old Packard Bell computer, running Win 98. She wants to upgrade to XP, only when trying to install, does not have enough space. 32 MB Ram it has a pentium(r) processor Also she would like to add more Gb only has 8 at the moment how would I find out what to buy and where to buy online. Also know how to add the ram but don't have a clue how to add the GB any help would be gratefully appreciated Thanks Jill

Finding the ram should not be a problem here in the states, over seas might be a bit tricky. You do realize that if the computer has any processor less than a 500MHZ XP is going to be very slow no matter how much ram you throw at it. Any way, add another hard drive or replace the hard drive already installed with a larger one, the Packard Bell should be able to support at least a 20 gig. |

Some of the Packard-Bell machines used non-standard memory modules, you will need to find the exact model name and number, and search the internet for someone who offers RAM guaranteed compatible with that machine. Installing a modern generic module will almost certainly fail. Of course, WinXP is completely no-viable on the old machine, because its maximum RAM is probably below the minimum requirements of XP. Run BELARC ADVISOR which is a free download. It will tell you every part that is in your unit.----mfg,amt of ram, hdd,any software installed, etc. |
