Hi, My computer died on me, so my friend gave me an old tower which only has 6.03 GB on the hardrive,of which there is only 2.55 GB free where I had 20 GB. I have added the memory sticks from my computer, so I have 256 MB of Ram, its all running fine, but its VERY VERY slow. I have changed internet provider as well. So why is it running so slow, to me the RAM is fine so could it be the harddrive. Is it difficult to change a harddrive, and how do I find out which harddrive to get, any help would be appreciated.

a lot of factors come into play with the performance of a PC. Memory for operating system is important, 256 megs is good for a 98 Me machine or even windows 2000, for XP, not so good. Hard drive fragmentation also plays a part in system performance, if your drives data is scattered all over the drive than access times are diminished making the system seem sluggish. Spyware on a PC also makes a machine slow as app's and software fight for resources. CPU speed and hard drive speed might also come into play depending on operating system, software, multi-tasking. Check your system spec's besides the memory and hard drive space. More info from you is needed to address the issues of performance. |
