when i use nuts and bolts it shows pci steering is disabled what is this and is it something i should fix

go to the device manager and see what windows says. if it matches, you've probably got a resource conflict. it's hard to tell what's causing it.
it depends on what you need to do with the pc. you could just check all your resources and see what comes up. post back what you find. |

i have no device conflicts in device manager nothing is in yellow what is proper way to check for resource conflicts is it where two or more functions share the same spot? |

it could be. also, there could be one device taking a memory address or irq that is not ordinarily it's called for address/irq. which means that you may be able to change it, or try to find what it's supposed to be. it's trial and error, sometimes, until it works. |

If you really do have a conflict OR you really want to get your PCI steering enabled, (which I would, it's important) then you can enter the bios under plug and play and reset the DMI data. But.....
BE WARNED, this will cause Windows to redetect all devices and you may have to fight to get other plug and play devices running again. If everything works, and your diagnositic software is the only think complaining, then leave it, why bother. |

Hmmm,
PCI steering is a fix that Intel invented to get around the fact that there are only 16 possible IRQs for all your devices. It allows some of your PCI devices to share the same IRQ. This is not necessarily a good thing! I have had enormous trouble with PCI steering and 3D graphics cards, which will hang the PC quite frequently if PCI steering is enabled and the card is forced to share an IRQ. So my advice is that if PCI steering is disabled and nothing is obviously crashing/conflicting - leave it as it is :-) |
