hi there! i've had some trouble upgrading my ram. i'll just detail briefly exactly what i've done. i had an intel d865gbf board, and some of my ram blew up, so i was running on 256mb for a time. i decided to upgrade to 1gb so i bought 3 other 256mb modules, same speed, same spec. it seemed though that they weren't going to work with my old one. so i got a fourth module of the same kind, and tried that. here's when the real problem started. 512mb was working fine in dual channel mode. when i went up to 1gb, using all available slots, i get a 'ram r/w test failed' at startup. it would continue to boot, but i'm worried that there's a real problem there. before i did anything else, i tried swapping modules around, resitting them, and so on. i tried the extra two i installed seperately with one of the first ones i had in there, no problem. tried them in different slots, in single and dual channel mode, no problem. tried 3 modules, different slots, no problem. but when i do 4x256mb in dual channel mode, that's when i get the message. i have the latest bios for my board (but one - the one after mine was apparently just a fix for video card issues). if you'd like to know any other specifications - please let me know. many thanks in advance. tim |
